光绪二十三年（1897年）十月二十八日江南银元局竣工，定名为“江南铸造银元制钱总局”，内分东、西两厂。其中东厂专造“江南省造光绪元宝”银元，“江南省造光绪元宝”银元分为无纪年（老江南）和有纪年（新江南）两大系列。“无纪年”系列是光绪二十三年，江南银元总局铸造的第一套“江南省造光绪元宝”银元，币面没有“干支”纪年，俗称为“老江南”，铸造量非常的少，面值有：库平七钱二分、三钱六分、一钱四分四厘、七分二厘和三分六厘五种。
On October 28, 1897, the Jiangnan Silver Yuan Bureau was completed and named the "Jiangnan Casting Silver Yuan Coin Making Bureau", with two factories located in the east and west. Among them, the East Factory specializes in producing "Jiangnan Province Made Guangxu Yuanbao" silver coins, which are divided into two major series: Wuji Nian (Old Jiangnan) and Youji Nian (New Jiangnan). The "Wuji Nian" series was the first set of "Jiangnan Province made Guangxu Yuanbao" silver coins minted by the Jiangnan Silver and Yuan Bureau in the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign. The coins did not have a "Ganzhi" chronological record and were commonly known as "Old Jiangnan". The amount of minting was very small, with denominations including: Kuping Seven Two Cents, Three Six Cents, One Four Cents Four Cents Four Cents, Seven Two Cents Two Cents, and Three Cents Six Cents.
而江南省造光绪元宝，它是光绪二十三年间开铸的一种钱币，到光绪三十一年的时候，就已经陆续停止铸造，到宣统三年，也就是1911年的时候，全部停止。由于它的铸造时间非常短，所以江南省造光绪元宝非常之稀少，又加上受历史原因的影响，江南省造光绪元宝保留下的真的非常少。因此，江南省造光绪元宝受到了很多个人爱好收藏者和藏品投资者的追捧，得到很多收藏者们的一致认可。
有藏家奇怪，我国没有江南省，那为什么会有江南省造的钱币呢？ 其实江南省是清朝初年设置的，它的辖地范围为现今的江苏、安徽、上海等地。康熙以后，江南省辖地缩小到江苏、安徽两省，至1723年(雍正元年)江南省被撤销，辖地复归江苏、安徽两省。江南省铸造银币历史不长，待江南省所铸的银币在市面上流通之时，江南省早已不复存在了。因此，“江南省造”钱币也是中国货币史上唯一标注“有名无实”之省份的钱币。

In addition, due to historical reasons, there are really very few preserved Guangxu Yuanbao in Jiangnan Province. Therefore, the production of Guangxu Yuanbao in Jiangnan Province has been highly sought after by many personal hobby collectors and collection investors, and has received unanimous recognition from many collectors.
Some collectors wonder why there are coins made by Jiangnan Province in China, as there is no Jiangnan Province in China? In fact, Jiangnan Province was established in the early Qing Dynasty, and its jurisdiction covers present-day areas such as Jiangsu, Anhui, and Shanghai. After Kangxi, the jurisdiction of Jiangnan Province was reduced to Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. By 1723 (the first year of Yongzheng), Jiangnan Province was abolished and its jurisdiction was restored to Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. The history of silver coin minting in Jiangnan Province is not long, and by the time the silver coins minted in Jiangnan Province are circulating on the market, Jiangnan Province will no longer exist. Therefore, the coins made in Jiangnan Province are also the only coins in the history of Chinese currency that have been marked as "named but not real".

近期我公司征集了一枚无纪年江南省造光绪元宝，典藏尺寸为重量26.6g直径39.7mm 。人字边，目“省”，带硬戳，图案打制清晰完整，龙鳞粒粒饱满，光泽温润，状态自然舒服。正面内圈刻有“光绪元宝”四个大字，上环“江南省造”四字，下环“库平七钱二分”六字，左右两端饰有长六花星，字体端庄清秀，笔画圆润饱满；纹饰自然，雕刻精细。银币背面上端镌英文“江南省”，下端镌英文币重“库平七钱二分”，左右两侧分别镌一个长六花星。中央圈内镌珍珠龙版蟠龙图，龙面与其他省光绪元宝迥异，龙头端庄大气，龙鳞精致细腻，龙爪刚劲有力。

The front inner circle is engraved with four large characters: "Guangxu Yuanbao", the upper ring is "Made in Jiangnan Province", and the lower ring is "Kuping Seven Coins and Two Fens". The left and right ends are decorated with long six flower stars, with dignified and elegant fonts and round and full strokes; The pattern is natural and the carving is exquisite. The upper end of the silver coin is engraved with the English word "Jiangnan Province", and the lower end is engraved with the English word "Kuping Seven Coins and Two Fens". A long six flower star is engraved on both sides. The central circle is engraved with a pearl dragon version of a coiled dragon, with a dragon face that is different from other provincial treasures of Guangxu. The dragon head is dignified and atmospheric, the dragon scales are delicate and delicate, and the dragon claws are strong and powerful.
区别于后来的银元，此版江南光绪元宝的正面没有注明干支纪年，所以称为无纪年江南省造光绪元宝，还有区别于后来的版本，此版银元背面的蟠龙带有外圈，后来的没有。无纪年江南省造光绪元宝银币流通币的边齿分为直齿边与人字边两种，“人字边”比”直齿边“少，人字边就是鹰洋齿，因为看起来像“人”字，因此很多时候也被叫做“人字边老江南”。
无纪年江南省造光绪元宝银币分“目”省与“日”省两种，是在正面铸造的江南省的“省”上，有些省字下面是目，有些省字少了一笔为日。“省”字不缺笔，“目省”版应该为“老江南”最早期铸币。“省”字下面“目”字上面少了一横笔，“日省”版应该为后期模具堵塞造成的，这一点从“老江南”齿边版也延续了“日省”的特征可以得到证实。

Additionally, unlike later versions, the coiled dragon on the reverse of this edition of silver coins has an outer circle, which was not included in later versions. The edge teeth of the circulating Guangxu Yuanbao silver coins in Jiangnan Province are divided into two types: straight tooth edges and herringbone edges. The "herringbone edge" is less than the "straight tooth edge", and the herringbone edge is an eagle shaped tooth. Because it looks like the "human" character, it is often referred to as the "old Jiangnan with a herringbone edge".
There are two types of Guangxu Yuanbao silver coins minted in Jiangnan Province, namely "mu" province and "ri" province, on the obverse side of the "province" in Jiangnan Province. Some provincial characters have "mu" below them, and some provincial characters have a missing stroke of "ri". The character "province" does not lack a pen, and the "mu province" version should be the earliest coinage of "old Jiangnan". There is a horizontal stroke missing below the character "province" and above the character "mu". The "Japanese provincial" version should be caused by later mold blockage, which can be confirmed by the continuation of the "Japanese provincial" feature in the "Old Jiangnan" toothed edge version.
