Dao coin is one of the bronze coins minted during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods from 770 BC to 221 BC. Dao coin is a general term for various knife shaped coins minted during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, including needle head knives, pointed head knives, Ming knives, Qi knives, round head knives, and so on. It is named after its shape resembling a knife. The Qi state in the east and the Yan state in the north mainly use knife coins. Knife coins are divided into two types: "Yanming Knife" and "Qidao Hua". The shape of the knife coin is similar to the knife tools used by northern nomadic ethnic groups such as Shanrong and Beidi for fishing and hunting. Due to the presence of the character "hua" on the Qi Dao surface, it is called "dao hua". The shape of the knife is divided into curved back, folded back, and straight back, with a flat head and a pointed head. It is also an early type of bronze coin in China.

During the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, social change was the most intense, making it the most colorful period in the currency of the pre Qin period. The wars of various countries, changes in territory, ethnic integration, and commodity exchange have led to the circulation of a large amount of currency, resulting in various currency systems such as cloth coins, knife coins, and round coins. The knife coin, slightly later than the shovel coin, was a dazzling oddity in the currency of this period. The official title of Dao coin is Hua (Huo) Dao coin, which is an early type of bronze coin in China. Its shape is like a small knife, consisting of four parts: the blade, body, handle, and ring. The edge of the knife is beyond the border, with the blade not facing outward or to the left or to the right. It is said to be a convex blade with a back, and the blade head is close to a three quadrant shape. The blade body and handle are two rectangular shapes of similar size, and the blade ring is circular. The entire knife coin is cleverly combined with several geometric shapes, forming a smooth, round, and harmonious image beauty.

This knife coin has a light and thin shape, with a flat bottom and curved feet. The hole is relatively short, and the empty head does not extend to the center of the coin. The lower end of the hole shrinks to the junction between the hole and the coin body. Surrounded by Guo, with no text on the face or back, and a raised midline. This type of early hollow head cloth evolved directly from primitive cloth and is rarely passed down, with high collection value.
